FDA Approves Extended-Release Version Of HIV Drug
Apr 5, 2011The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has approved an extended-release version of Viramune, a drug manufactured by Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals for the treatment of HIV patients.
When taken with other anti-HIV medicines, Viramune can reduce the severity of an HIV patient's viral infection and help replenish the cells attacked by HIV. The extended-release version of the pill can be taken just once a day, instead of the twice-daily dose required for the earlier version of the drug.
Boehringer Ingelheim is also expanding a program under which it makes its HIV medicines available for free to patients who are in financial need. For more information on this program, patients may call 800-556-8317 or go to http://www.RxHope.com.
