A cardiovascular product was being utilized in less than 10% of the diagnosed population, despite clear evidence from multiple clinical trials that the product was highly effective.
In-depth assessment of the clinician barriers to adoption revealed that the drug was being underutilized because it was too complex to be practical. The drug required periodic blood monitoring, special patient education, management of potential drug interactions, dietary restrictions, and variable dosing schedules.
A system and tools were created to help physicians and their staffs use the drug with greater consistency and ease. The result was an increase in drug utilization to 40% of the diagnosed population, along with a nine-fold increase in sales.
